Match Story: Michelle & Jhordan

“I have loved every minute!” And with nearly 10 years of memories under her belt, it’s easy to see why Big Sister Michelle Muth has trouble pinpointing just one favorite. When she first met Jhordan, there was an easy connection. What started as a mentoring relationship has blossomed into a lifelong sisterhood. “When we were first matched, she was only 10 years old. Now we can talk about anything.”

When Michelle was planning her wedding, Jhordan was by her side as a bridesmaid. “We got to go dress shopping and get our picture taken. It was a lot of fun and I’m so glad she got to be a part of that with me,” Michelle says.

Through the trials of life, one thing has remained constant for this pair-each other. When Michelle became pregnant in 2013 with her son, she was ill, bedridden, and had to resign from her career as a police officer. “It was hard to try to be there and be strong for someone else when I so desperately needed help myself.” Even now, the pair lives across the valley from each other which creates its own set of challenges.

Even though the match will officially close when Jhordan turns 18, the two are excited to see where life takes them-together. And Michelle’s son? Well, he loves his Aunt Jhordan dearly. “Jhordan has made me a better person. The irony in this is that you become a mentor to help someone else in life. Honestly, she has really helped me live and walk mine out.”
