AAA CARES PROGRAM
|
|
AAA Cares is a unique Site-based mentorship program formed between AAA and BBBSAZ. AAA employees are matched to students who are either no longer in mainstream high school or at risk of dropping out. BBBSAZ provides the mentor screening, training and support.
The youth selected for the program typically have risk factors in their lives that can present obstacles to their success.
The 2007- 2008 year began in November with 20 students and 15 successfully completed the program. At the end graduation event, three were awarded a paid summer internship with AAA, and two additional students were selected for last-minute internship openings. |

ASK A PROGRAM SPECIALIST
| |
Dear Program Specialist,
I took my Little shopping at the mall last weekend and she found something she really wanted but she did not have any money with her. She asked me to buy it for her but I said no. What should I do if this comes up again?
Buying things for your Little may compromise the health of your match. It sets up an expectation of what the mentoring relationship will be. If the child learns that you will buy them things, they may expect and even ask for gifts, which may leave you resentful over time. Learn to say no, and be prepared to articulate why this is important for the friendship.
