Become a Big Brother or Sister

Big Brothers Big Sisters matches children (“Littles”) ages 6 through 18 with volunteer mentors (“Bigs”) in professionally supported relationships (“Matches”).  Matches meet two to four times per month for at least 6 months in one of our programs.

The Programs
Matches come together through our two essential programs:

Community-Based
This program offers Bigs the opportunity to meet with their Little for a few hours each month at times that are convenient for both of them.  Matches can plan activities that they'll both enjoy like playing sports, watching movies or just hanging out.

Site-Based

Bigs meet with their Little at an elementary school or community site for about an hour each week during the school year, and meet along side other Bigs and Littles to play games, tutor or just talk.

Through the following volunteer program initiatives, we are able to serve specific populations and communities:

Couple/Family Match- A couple or an entire family can be matched to a child in our Community-Based program.  Share the fun with your loved ones!

Hispanic Mentoring Initiative (HMI)- We are committed to serving the needs of Hispanic children and families by emphasizing the connection with Hispanic communities and the recruitment of Latino volunteers and Little through this program.

Tres Hermanos- This new Community-Based mentoring program focuses upon one-to-one matching of Hispanic male volunteers to Hispanic Little Brothers.  The primary relationship is the one-to-one match between the Big Brother and the Little Brother.  In addition, Tres Hermanos volunteers are encouraged to recruit two of their friends to be matched at the same time, so all three Matches (volunteer and youth) can participate in activities together when convenient.  This flexible program allows one-to-one Matches to meet individually or with their Tres Hermanos "family".  In addition, Tres Hermanos will include two to three cultural activities per year for the Matches to socialize and celebrate their Hispanic heritage.

STARS Children of an Incarcerated Parent- Currently, 1 in 33 children in the U.S. have a parent in prison.  Of those children, 70% will themselves become incarcerated. STARS matches volunteer mentors with children who have been identified and enrolled by their custodial parent or guardian.
